As part of Big Green Egg’s 50th birthday celebrations, we’re sharing 50 brand-new recipes from an amazing cast of cooks. Next up is interiors expert, designer and retailer Abigail Ahern. For Abigail, creating a space that triggers a positive emotional response is the principal aim of any design, and that applies as much to her garden as to any interior room. “For me, the outdoors is just as important as the indoors,” she says. “I’m obsessed with being outdoors all year round.”
Her Big Green Egg is a centrepiece of her beautiful garden and she cooks on it at every opportunity, regardless of the season. “There’s this sense of freedom when I’m outside and I’m cooking on it,” she says. “The craziness of the day goes away. It all just goes away.”
A CHAT WITH Abigail
Abigail settled into one of her gorgeous sofas to talk to us about her design philosophy, her love of cooking over fire, and why she applies the same painstaking care to sourcing her ingredients as she does to stocking her shop.

Abigail cooked us a simple but flavour-packed chicken dish, paired with homemade hummus and flatbreads. And, inevitably, she presented it beautifully using some of her highly distinctive tableware.
