WEEE Directive
What you need to know
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law. This means that sellers of electrical equipment must allow consumers to return waste electrical equipment without charging them a return fee.
The amount of WEEE thrown away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK. Much of this ends up in landfill, where lead and other toxins can cause soil and water contamination and have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and human health. Many of the items we throw away could be repaired or recycled, which would help save our finite natural resources and reduce the environmental and health risks.
Distributors of new electric and electronic equipment have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. Like all retailers, Alfresco Concepts (UK) Ltd is now obliged to offer customers free take-back of WEEE on a like-for-like basis when they buy a new electrical product. For example, if a customer buys a new Rotisserie 2.0 from us, we will accept their old Rotisserie and dispose of it safely and responsibly, free of charge. Customers must return their WEEE to us at their own cost within 28 days of purchasing a new item.

Under the WEEE regulations, all new electrical goods should now be marked with a crossed-out wheely bin symbol. This shows that they were produced after 13th August 2005 and should be disposed of separately from normal household waste.
