Curious cooks

In the summer holidays, it’s great to spend time outside with your kids, showing them how to cook over fire and hot coals. They love the outdoors, and they love cooking together. Persuading them to eat things they normally wouldn’t try is always a challenge, but it’s much easier when they’re involved in making it.

Favourite family dishes

1. Chicken tenders

Chicken tenders marinated in yogurt and garlic are really easy to prepare together and pleasingly quick to cook.

2. Mini flatbreads

Simple homemade flatbreads are great to make with your kids. Drop them onto the hot grill and cook for a minute or two on each side. Still warm, they’ll eat them with pretty much anything – hummus, or butter and honey.

1. Fill a paddling pool

When the sun is shining, there’s nothing more popular than filling up an outdoor paddling pool to splash around in.

2. Pitch a tent

Staying out overnight in a tent together is always a fun adventure.

3. Go foraging

Picking berries and other wild fruit and herbs will keep them interested when you’re having a country walk. It helps them appreciate nature and results in tasty food for everyone to enjoy.
