Will and the EGG

As part of Big Green Egg’s 50th birthday celebrations, we’re sharing 50 brand-new recipes from an amazing cast of cooks. Next up to share his favourite dishes is Will Greenwood, a true legend of English rugby union, capped 55 times by England and one of the stars of the 2003 World Cup win. Will doesn’t pretend to be as good a cook as he was a rampaging, try-scoring centre, but he takes great pleasure in cooking for family and friends on his Big Green Egg.

Chewing the fat

After making us a lunch of pad thai and spicy prawns, Will sat down to share his thoughts on life as an elite athlete, the joys of cooking on the EGG, and the jaw-dropping scenes at his 40th birthday party.

“SUMMER, SUNDAY AFTERNOON, GARDEN, BIG GREEN EGG – THAT’S THE ROUTINE.”

Will Greenwood

“Wednesday night, wherever we were in the world, the England team would go for a meal out. You sit, you break bread, you tell stories, you understand a little bit more about the human being rather than the athlete.”
