A Tart London Christmas party
Main content
Party starters
Over Christmas and New Year, we love laying on a proper party – a fluid gathering of friends and family, milling around, drinks in hand. A table heaving with platters of food, ready to be piled up on plates by happy revellers and devoured one-handed with a fork.
If anyone knows how to create an impressive party spread, it’s Lucy Carr-Ellison and Jemima Jones. Through their Tart London catering business and Wild by Tart restaurant, they’ve become famous for their highly seasonal cooking, rooted in a farm-to-fork ethos but with the vibrancy and colour to excite any crowd. Lucy and Jemima, who love the social power of cooking over fire, have put together an amazing Big Green Egg party menu for you to recreate at home.

TART LONDON AND THE EGG
Jemima was inspired to invest in a Large EGG by her “very cool and slightly wild” Canadian cousins. “I’d see them on Instagram, using their Big Green Eggs religiously, snow falling all around them, and it really sold it to me,” she says. She quickly fell in love with its durability, its ability to hold heat perfectly, and the simple, tactile nature of its design. “There are no buttons,” she says. “It’s all about feel and instinct.” Mostly, though, she loves the flavour. “It’s incomparable: the smokiness, the caramelisation, and that depth you just don’t get from an oven.”

TOP FIVE HOSTING TIPS
Putting the Big Green Egg at the heart of proceedings means you get to be part of the party rather than a flustered presence on the sidelines. “The smell alone will draw everyone outside, mulled wine in hand, and makes the whole occasion feel special!” says Jemima. According to Lucy, the key is planning. “Prep as much in advance as possible so you can enjoy and be present in the experience,” she says. Here are our five golden rules for happy hosting.

ABOUT TART LONDON
Lucy and Jemima, both of whom hail from farming families, met in 2010 while working in the fashion industry in New York, where they bonded over a shared love of food. After returning to the UK, they established Tart London to cater for photo shoots and fashion industry events, feeding big, hungry crews with nourishing, seasonal food that still felt indulgent and joyful. That evolved into other events, pop-up restaurants, a cookbook called A Love of Eating, and eventually a permanent restaurant, Wild by Tart in Belgravia.
